그런데 이게 뭥믜? 해상도가 1280x800 까지 밖에 안나오는 겁니다. 물론 최대해상도 2560 x 1600 을 사용하려면 Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter 를 15만 9천원에 사서 사용해야 한다는 건 알고 있습니다. 하지만 1900 x 1200 해상도 까지는 당연히 될 줄 알았습니다.  애플 스토어에 이렇게 써져있거든요.

Mini DisplayPort-DVI 어댑터를 사용하면 20형 혹은 23형 Apple Cinema Display와 같은 고급 디지털 모니터를 Mini DisplayPort가 장착된 MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air에 연결할 수 있습니다.


23인치 Apple Cinema Display 를 보면 1900x1200 해상도를 지원한다고 합니다. 그런데 막상 2560x1600 32bit 60Hz 해상도를 지원하는 유플러스비젼 UP-M30W1를 Mini DisplayPort to DVI로 연결하였을 때 1280x800 까지만 나오는 겁니다. 30인치 모니터에서 1280x800이란 말입니다. 픽셀 블럭 큼직큼직하게 보입니다. - -*

지원되는 해상도 목록은 1280x800 이외에 몇 개가 더 있지만 모니터가 제대로 표현해주는건 1280x800 까지였습니다. 벼라별 짓을 다 해 보아도 해상도가 개선되지 않길래 애플 서비스 센터에 문의해 보았더니 돌아온 답변은 아래와 같았습니다.

"Mini DisplayPort to DVI 어댑터를 사용해 연결할 경우 최대 해상도는 1280x800 까지 입니다."

1900x1200 은요? Apple Cinema 23형에서 연결해서 쓸수 있다면서요? 그렇게 연결했을 때 1280x800 까지 밖에 안된다고 그 어디에 써져 있단 말인가요? 명동 프리스비에서 구매할 때도 개봉 후 환불 불가 원칙만 고지받았지 해상도에 대한 얘기 듣지 못했습니다.

이런 망할...

제품 성능에 대해 오해할 수 있는 상황(Apple Cinema 23에 연결 가능하다 = 1900x1200 사용 가능하다)이었기 때문에 환불이나 기타 조치를 요구하려 합니다.


조금 전에 명동 프리스비에 들러서 직원분과 얘기를 하다 왔습니다. 직원분이 애플 기술 직원분과 다시 통화하시고 제게 설명해주신 내용은 아래와 같습니다.

  1. Single Link Adapter로 1900x1200 해상도를 지원 받으려면 23인치 이하 크기 모니터여야 한다
  2. 23인치 보다 큰 모니터로 1280x800 보다 높은 해상도를 이용하려면 Dual Link Adapter를 사용해야 한다
  3. 이번 경우 같은 일이 더 생기지 않도록 애플 코리아와 얘기하여 시정 조치토록 하겠다
  4. 이미 구매한 제품은 특별히 반품 처리 하겠다
15만9천원 짜리 어댑터를 사서 이미 가지고 있는 30인치 모니터를 살리느냐, 아니면 23인치 모니터를 하나 더 사느냐...
참... 난감한 애플 정책이 아닐 수 없습니다.

KTF가 아이폰 출시를 계획하고 애플과 협상중이라는 뉴스를 듣고 귀가 쫑긋해졌던게 작년 말.
2009년 4월 출시라는 소식이 흘러 나오면서 쌀이 익어 이제 뜸이 들어가고 봄이 오면 밥상이 차려지겠구나 들떴던 내 마음.
맥북 프로 사용자로서 Mac OS X이 가지는 사용자 편의성과 기능성에 이미 중독된 상태라 아이폰이 출시되길 손 꼽아 기다렸건만...

2주 전, KTF 아이폰 출시 포기 소식이 들려오다!!!
SK Telecom은 KTF가 포기했으니 우리가 출시해야지! 이럴 리가 없다는건 자명한 사실!!!
LG Telecom은 전화기 만드는 자회사가 있는데 생까고 외국 제품 수입해서 출시하기 남부끄러운 상황!!!

이런 스토리로 아이팟 터치가 내 손 안에.
물론 이 며칠 사이에 아이팟 가격이 대폭 상승하고 중고물건을 찾다가 끝내는 OK 캐쉬백을 탈탈 털어 11번가에서 새 물건을 사버리게 되는 우여곡절도 있었다.

당분간 터치 가지고 놀면서 알게되는 것들을 글로 정리하게되지 않을까...

간혹 이런 경우는 있다. 어른이 듣기에는 말도 안되는 시퀀스가 만들어졌는데 어린이는 그 결과에 대만족하고 또 다른 대만족스러운 - 어른들이 보기엔 유치만빵이지만 - 결과를 기대하며 계속 매달리는 것이다. 상대적으로 매우 드문 경우...

인터페이스 측면에서 봐야지 상품 측면에서 보면 안될 것이다.

It's an old adage that no security measure is worth anything if an attacker has physical access to the machine, but things like heavy-duty disk encryption are supposed to at least slow things down. Sadly, that may not actually be the case, as a group of Princeton researchers has just published a paper detailing an exploit that requires little more than a spray duster and a screwdriver. Since the encryption key for systems like BitLocker and FileVault lives in RAM, all an attacker has to do to get it is cool the RAM modules with the air duster held upside down, yank the DIMM, and insert it into another machine, where it can then be read to access the key. Of course, this assumes that you've already typed in your password, but check the video after the break to see how long bits in RAM stay written -- even if you've turned off your computer, there's a chance the key can still be read. Looks like there's an actual benefit to MacBook Air's soldered-in RAM after all, eh?

Finally things are starting to get a little more futuristic around here. Beginning next Monday, bus riders in San Francisco will get a chance to hop at least one ride that will take them to the Columbus stop, Van Ness stop... and the World of Tomorrow. Thanks to the combined effort of SF's Muni and Cisco, the "Connected Bus" will be hauling around free WiFi and touchscreen maps on its walls (which will also carry updated connecting transit information). Sure, it's no citywide wireless coverage, but combined with the BART train WiFi rollout, it's certainly a start. Cisco tested the bus with 15 riders checking email and downloading music and movies on laptops, and say that the signal was "strong and uninterrupted," though they admit they haven't tested the system during a 15-player fragfest. Anyone up for a ride?

You'd better watch your back Adobe, because it looks like you've got company in the 3D picture game. Stanford University researchers have recently hit upon a method of image sensing which can judge the distance of subjects within a shot. By using a 3-megapixel sensor which is broken into multiple, overlapping 16 x 16-pixel squares (referred to as subarrays), a camera is capable of capturing a variety of angles in one frame. When the images taken by the multi-aperture device are processed by proprietary software, location differences are measured from each mini-lens, and then combined into a photograph containing a depth map. This procedure allows the same image to appear at different angles, provided the subject has depth to begin with (i.e., isn't a flat surface). Here's hoping this technology makes it into consumer products pronto, ASAP, and forthwith.

Alter-G looks to have been boasting about its G-Trainer "anti-gravity" treadmill for some time now, but it seems that it's now a whole lot closer to finding itself under your feet someday, as it has now been approved as an actual medical device by the FDA. In case it didn't pop up on your radar, the device itself makes use of a specialized air pressure regulation system to reduce the individuals' effective body weight by up to 80%, with it apparently precise enough to make changes in increments as small as 1%. Of course, Alter-G also seems to be quite confident that the rig is entirely safe but, given some of the predicaments we've seen other, seemingly innocuous treadmills get in, we'd still be a little cautious about strapping ourselves into the thing.

We know, most of you Blue Devil fans are still reeling from that recent loss to Wake Forest, but if it's any consolation, at least your campus is about to become home to the "world's largest" 802.11n wireless network. Last we heard, The Ohio State University held the crown for Earth's biggest WLAN with 1,700 access points lit, but according to Cisco, Duke's campus will soon house 2,500 Aironet 1250 Series APs. The installation will leave more than six million square feet of central North Carolina blanketed in WiFi, and will supposedly be the "largest planned 802.11n wireless network in the world by any organization to date." Watch out, Dukies -- we hear those folks in Chapel Hill have a thing for swiping unsecured signals.

While the advanced processing, glass and sensors of DSLRs has made them a likely candidate for video capture for some time now, a few technical obstacles have stood in the way. All that could be changing, though, with this DSLR "Movie Mode" patent from Japanese inventor Hiroshi Terada uncovered by Photography Bay. The wide-ranging patent addresses trouble spots such as AF focus speed and tolerance, and the auto-cropping DSLRs perform during AF adjustments, but most interesting is the mirror. The patent suggests a mirror that lets through 70% of light, while reflecting the other 30%. Reflected light can be used for continuous AF, while transmitted light is captured on the camera's primary sensor. This mirror configuration also allows live view while shooting stills. There's no telling when we'll start seeing this in cameras, or if any major manufacturers have even licensed it yet -- or have developed similar systems -- but it does seem clear that DSLR movie shooting is fairly inevitable.
