In the course of my auditing, I discovered a floating fund in an account, which was opened in 1990 belonging to a foreigner who died in 1999. Every effort made to track any member of his family or next of kin has since failed; hence I got in contact with you to stand as his next of kin since you bear the same last name. He died leaving no heir or a will.

 

My intention is to transfer this sum of US$15.5Million Dollars in the aforementioned account to a safe account overseas. I am therefore proposing that you quietly partner with me and provide an account or set up a new one that will serve the purpose of receiving this fund. For your assistance in this venture, I am ready to share the entire fund in the ratio 50% for you and 50% for me as soon as the fund is confirmed in your account. After going through the deceased person's records and files, I discovered that:

 

(1) No one has operated this account since 1999

(2) He died without an heir or WILL; hence the money has been floating.

(3) No other person knows about this account and there was no known beneficiary.

 

If I do not remit this money urgently, it would be forfeited and subsequently converted to company's funds, which will benefit only the directors of my firm. This money can be approved to you legally as with all the necessary; documentary approvals in your name. However, you would be required to show some proof of claim, which I will provide you with and also guide you on how to make your applications.

메일 전문

내용을 대충 보면 자기가 영국 왕립은행의 감사관인데 계좌들을 보다가 1990년에 개설해서 99년에 죽은 외국인의 채권계좌를 찾았다.

근데 그 외국인은 유언같은 걸 남기지 않고 죽었다. 내가 계좌를 보니 1550만 달러의 값어치가 있더라.

이 계좌는 붕 뜬 계좌고 지금까지 나와 당신말고 아무도 아는 사람없다.

결론 : 우리끼리 나눠먹자. 그러니 당신 개인정보를 달라.

말은 정중하고 그럴듯해 보였지만 개인정보를 달라는 부분에서 이미 사기라는 느낌이 진하게 나더군요.

혹시나 싶어서 검색해보니 비슷한 내용의 메일이 왔다며 질문을 올린 사람이 있었습니다.

많은 나이지리아 범죄 신디케이트들이 선불 사기를 저질렀는데요. 수법은 제가 받은 메일과 비슷한 내용의 메일을 보내서

타국 사람들을 유혹합니다. 이 돈을 받고 싶으면 얼마 비용이 드는데 그 비용을 부쳐달라. 아니면 당신 은행계좌의 세부사항을

알려달라는 겁니다. 그 결과 피해자들은 뭉칫돈이 빠져나갔다는 내역서를 받게 되죠.

알려진 바로는 빠져나간 돈들은 국제은행에 보관된다고 합니다.

나이지리아 갱단들이 고용한 '야후-야후 보이스'(메일 주소는 야후를 이용하기 때문입니다.)로 알려진 청년들은 갱 우두머리들

아래서 실습 기간을 거쳐 특별 교육을 받은 후 라고스와 다른 도시의 인터넷 카페로 흩어집니다. 

이런 범죄는 그에 해당하는 나이지리아 법 조항이 419조인 데서 따와 '419범죄' 라고 알려지기도 했는데. 2004년 아부자에서 있었던

브라질의 노로에스테 은행을 목표로 한 2억 4200만 달러 상당의 419범죄 재판은 이례적인 경우였습니다.

왜냐면 나이지리아에서 활동하는 이 사기꾼들을 기소해도 이 사건처럼 일주일만에 재판이 성공적으로 처리되는 경우는 거의

없거든요. 세계의 수많은 사람들이 소액을 여러번 입금하거나 한번에 거액을 입금하거나 해서 사기를 당했고 기소를 했지만

기소되는 경우는 거의 없었습니다. 차일피일 시간만 끌다 흐지부지 되고 말았고 피해자들의 대부분은 은퇴 후 연금을 받고 살던

노인들이 재테크 명목으로 연금을 몰아넣은거라 막막해진 몇몇 피해자들은 자살하기도 했습니다.

나이지리아 정치권과 조직범죄의 결탁은 고위층에도 만연합니다. 나이지리아 바옐사 주 주지사 디에프레예 알라미예세이가는

320만달러가 넘는 돈세탁 혐의로 2005년 영국 히드로 공항에서 체포되었었는데, 보석 조건을 어기고 여장을 하고 도망친 후

나이지리아의 집으로 돌아갔습니다. '최고 치안 유지 주지사 메달'과 '훌륭한 주지사에게 주는 금 트로피'를 받은 나이지리아에서는

기소없이 안전할 수 있었거든요.

이렇듯 계속되는 부패와 법 집행 능력부족이 나이지리아에서 조직범죄 신디케이트가 번성하는 완벽한 조건을 제공하고 있습니다.

제가 받은 메일과 비슷한 내용의 메일을 받은 분은 생각해볼 필요 없이 즉시 삭제하시길..
